LEONARDTOWN, Md. — Viking Axe Throwing, a rapidly growing local business that opened in late 2022, has relocated to Action Lounge and Billiards at 25470 Point Lookout Road, Unit F, in Leonardtown. This move marks the merging of two family-oriented community businesses. Viking Axe Throwing continues to make its mark by partnering with local organizations, businesses, and charities to host unique events throughout the year.
Community Engagement and Upcoming Events
Viking Axe Throwing is actively involved in local events, including the Moll Dyer & Local Legends Weekend from Feb. 21-23 in Leonardtown Square. The event, hosted by the Town of Leonardtown, Leonardtown Business Association, and Visit St. Mary’s, will feature scavenger hunts, cocktail contests, ghost tours, and more.
During the festival, Viking Axe Throwing is sponsoring a charity raffle benefiting Seeds of Courage, a nonprofit that provides financial assistance and resources to domestic violence survivors. Raffle tickets are available for purchase at Leonardtown Town Hall until Feb. 21 and on-site in Leonardtown Square on Feb. 22 and Feb. 23. Tickets are $5 each or $20 for five.
The grand prize is “The Moll House,” a handcrafted, three-story, Vermont farmhouse-style dollhouse built by local craftsman Kraig Eriksen. Inspired by the legend of Moll Dyer, the dollhouse is fully furnished, decorated, and features working light fixtures. Net proceeds from the raffle will go directly to Seeds of Courage.
On March 1, Viking Axe Throwing is teaming up with Vertical Dance Co. and Port of Leonardtown Winey for Cirque du Burlesque – Mardi Gras, an event at Action Lounge & Billiards that will showcase aerialists, belly dancers, acrobats, live music, and more. The night will include dinner, a show, a DJ, dancing, and axe-throwing. Tickets are required.
In April, Viking Axe Throwing will co-host the Mad Hatter Tea Party in partnership with Town Market and Port of Leonardtown Winery. The event will be held on April 12 and April 13 from noon to 2 p.m., featuring a light tea luncheon, desserts, and a fairy teacup garden craft. Tickets are $25 per person.
Military Appreciation Month and New Collaborations
For May’s Military Appreciation Month, Viking Axe Throwing is partnering with Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) to host a Liberty Center event for E1-E6 sailors, offering free activities for a few hours. Additionally, the business will provide special military discounts throughout the month. More details will be posted on the Viking Axe Throwing Facebook page.
Cori Eriksen, Viking Axe Throwing’s axe coordinator and business manager, emphasized the company’s dedication to collaborating with local businesses and supporting community initiatives.
“We’re here full time now at Action Lounge and Billiards, we are trying to promote more team building and family activities,” Eriksen said. “And also work and collaborate with different businesses in the community on a regular basis.”
Eriksen also highlighted the business’s military ties. “Action Lounge and Billiards is veteran-owned—Kraig was Navy, and Matt Suite, the owner of Action, was a Marine. It’s two families working together, both military, and we’re trying to incorporate more into Military Appreciation Month.”
Supporting Local Schools and Charities
Viking Axe Throwing is also expanding its charitable work by donating handcrafted dollhouse churches to Chesterton Academy, a Catholic school in Mechanicsville.
Additionally, Viking Axe Throwing is also organizing a Wonderland-themed dollhouse raffle to support Clements Cuties, in conjunction with the Mad Hatter Tea Party. Hosted by Town Market, the event will showcase handcrafted dollhouses by Kraig Eriksen, whimsical toadstool tables for sale, and other imaginative designs.
