At approximately 4 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, authorities were informed about a potential water rescue situation in the area of 27130 South Sandgates Rd. in Oakville. The initial report indicated that there was a white and blue 20 foot boat that had 4 people on board and two in the water.
Department of Natural Resources and Maryland State Police were notified and Trooper 7 headed toward the scene. By approximately 4:15 a.m., a full water search and rescue operation was initiated involving rescue craft from all three Southern Maryland Counties, and dive teams from Charles and Calvert.
Authorities were notified that the two people had been in the water and missing for approximately one half hour at that time.
Searchers were unable to pinpoint an exact location on the affected boat other than it was closer to the St. Maryโs side of the Patuxent River than the Calvert side. At approximately 4:38 a.m., a witness or witnesses reported seeing two people in the water about 10 feet from the Seabreeze Pier and that the 2 were pulled from the water onto the pier.
DNR requested that the people involved be held at that location pending their arrival and state police remained on the scene until DNR arrived and took command of he situation. All six people were examined by emergency medical service personnel and signed refusals.
No other details are available at this time.
