Linus (of Peanuts) may have been sitting the pumpkin patch waiting for the โ€œGreat Pumpkin,โ€ but many Southern Maryland residents were out and about this weekend taking advantage of numerous Halloween-related activities.

Businesses all around Leonardtown participated in Trick-or-Treat on the Square by giving out goodies to kids dressed in their Halloween scariest or cleverest. In addition they were able to participate in building a scarecrow. And the St. Maryโ€™s Animal Welfare League held a pet costume contest and the results are posted on their Facebook page.

Many schools around the area held Halloween festivals. An example was Oakville Elementary School in Mechanicsville. A number of activities were available for the kids and representatives of the sheriffโ€™s department and fire and rescue squads were also there. A costume contest was held and there were several moon bounces ready to be enjoyed.

This was the last weekend for the Bowles Farms Corn Maze in Clements. This yearโ€™s maze was designed to honor the 70th anniversary of naval aviation.

There are also a number of organized activities planned for the actual Halloween night, October 31, including the annual trick-or-treat event at the Wildewood Shopping Center.
