Jacobi Powell Lexington Park

Jacobi S. Powellย

Lexington Park, MD— On May 5, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Pontorno conducted a vehicleย stop on a BMW for speeding. The vehicle was stopped on Rutherford Boulevard and Chancellors Run Road.ย

Sergeant ย Safford of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office contacted the driver–identified as Jacobi S, Powell, 34, of Lexington Park. Powell gave a name to Safford that was incorrect, then advised he gave the false name becauseย his license was suspended.ย

A check through the Motor Vehicle Administration was completed, and it was found that Powell’s license was suspended. During the traffic stop, a search was conducted on the vehicle.

Two small, clear bags were found with an unknown white powdery substance and a rolled up two dollarย bill ย was found in the center console.ย

Powell was advised of his Miranda Rights, which he waived. Powell advised the white powdery substance was cocaine, “which was purchased earlier in the day,” according to charging documents.ย

Powell was arrested and transportedย to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center, where he was charged with making a false statement to a peace officer, and CDS possession not marijuana.ย

Powell has a scheduled hearing set for July 26 in District Court. Powell faces a maximum jail sentence ofย four years and six months and/or a maximum fine of $26,000.ย
