Hughesville, MD โ€“ High winds resulted in numerous scattered power outages in
Southern Maryland Monday, Jan. 23. Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) spokesman Tom Dennison told TheBayNet.com that crews had been out since mid-morning dealing with weather-related situations at feeder stations. โ€œMost have been restored rather quickly,โ€ said Dennison, who added that the high wind gusts knocked down trees that created the outages.

Sources in Southern Calvert County reported Route 2/4 traffic lights at Southern Connector Boulevard and Coster Road were out. There were also reports that two schools in the southern end of Calvert–Mill Creek Middle School and Dowell Elementary School–were briefly without power.

The most outages that were reported occurred in Charles and St. Maryโ€™s counties. Charles County Government reported Old Washington Road in Waldorf between Pembrooke Square and Smallwood Drive was closed for over an hour during the late morning due to downed power lines. The road was reopened before noon after SMECO crews repaired the damage.
