If you are a candidate and about to appear for a medical competitive exam like NEET, then you are in right place. It is well understood that you would like to know the important tips and strategies which can help you to prepare for this competitive exam and succeed.
Well, success in National Eligibility and Entrance Test is not only for everyone. You should have the right attitude towards the exam. You should know how to study and prepare yourself for the exam by setting the smart goals.
Here you will learn the tips and strategies to prepare for the NEET or any other competitive exam with necessary confidence and it will maximize your chances of success.
So letโs get started.
Tip #1: Condition Your Mind:
If you keep thinking about failure, about what will happen if you canโt pass the exam, about your classmate in your class who is so ‘intelligent’ and will surely crack the exam, then your mind is getting conditioned for failure. You are training it to expect and accept failure. Do you remember the lines by a famous poet?
If you think you are beaten, you are. If you think you dare not, you donโt. If youโd like to win, but think you canโt,
Itโs almost certain you wonโt.
The same is true in succeeding at anything. Train the brain that โyou can do itโ, โyou will also winโ. Keep on saying, repeating consciously or unconsciously yourself, โI will crack the exam. I have the required skill and knowledge to qualify it.โ
Keep dreaming about the day when you will pass the exam. Keep feeling awesome about your unique goal, the proper study techniques, the plan of actions you have set, useful tips that you are going to apply, then you are conditioning your mind for success. Life and success are largely games of self-belief. If you believe in yourself, you will keep on trying and will not be bogged down by roadblocks that you may hit from time to time.
At the same time, you must understand that there’s a fine line between self-belief and complacency. Complacency is dangerous, and negativity is far more dangerous. So, condition yourself all the time for a successful outcome of your preparation. Be careful about yourself how easily you can fall into the trap of ‘this cannot be done’ or ‘this will not happen’ โyou canโt becomeโ just because the people around you who are saying so have failed in the past. No matter what others say, you have to attempt what you believe in.
Tip #2: Boost Your Brain Power:
โThe more you use, the more you getโ โ this is the secret of increasing brain power. Human brain only created all the beautiful things you see around yourself. Your brain too can create such wonders, if you allow it to do so. So, remove the โI canโt do thisโ mindset. Have strong desire to be successful. Everything you think and do is recorded by your brain cells called neurons by forming the neuronal network. When a strong network is created, you learn better and remember more. How do you create a strong network of neurons? By repetition!
When you revise or practice something, a strong network of neurons is automatically created in your brain. So, to learn anything fast and remember better, more practice or revision is required. Keep on revising the materials you have studied.
Fifteen minutes of Sudoku, half an hour of singing, a TV serial or maybe even your favorite hobby activity โ all these help jog the mind and keep it fresh. Find ways to chill out mentally. Music works for most people. Maybe walking around or talking to a friend about phone works for you. Five minutes spent with refreshing activity can give your mind wings freely fly in the air. And maybe reading a chapter of a novel makes you feel awesome, but somewhere you have to stop and check the watch. Remember, before you learn a subject you have to like it. So if you don’t like a subject condition yourself to like it before you start studying it.
The competitive exam is not the kind of exam where you can put some extra data or information into your brain just before the exams and release it during the exam. Planned preparation and regular study are important if you want to remember more and keep yourself away from the overburdened and stressed situation. If you have studied hard right through the preparation period, stay a little relaxed when the exam reaches your edge. On the previous day of the examination, donโt try to overburden your brain, get a good night’s sleep and be confident.
Tip #3: Attain 100% Concentration:
Your future is completely dependent on knowledge and skills you acquire. Only you will benefit from your knowledge. So, decide to give top priority to gain knowledge.ย This will automatically draw your mind toward the study.ย Concentration will then become easy. Request your family members or friends to help you study with concentration. Stay away from all the distractions like TV, mobiles etc. that disturb you during studies. Even though you open your books and stare at them, you find yourself thinking you different things. Itโs natural and common for all human beings. To solve this problem you just declare yourself like this โFor next one hour I will study only chapter – 1โฆ.. (or anything you want).โ With repeated use of this self-declaration, you will gradually be able to focus studies.
Believe it or not, you already have the power of 100% concentration. Donโt be surprised. Where from do you get that concentration while watching a good film or an interesting TV serial? Do you think about other things while watching these? Now you just need to transfer this ability to other situations like listening to your teachersโ lectures, studying an important topic at home, preparing for the exam, and so on. Just train your mind to concentrate on one activity for a long time. Repeat the affirmation time to time โMy concentration is improving. I can concentrate on anything for any length of time.โ Once you develop this ability, it can become a very successful habit.
Tip #4: Know When To Start Preparing For The Exam:
Itโs been a common question for the candidate โWhen from should I start taking preparation for the exam?โ It actually depends on the type of the exam and how difficult the exam is. In some competitive exams, the syllabus is so vast that it really takes a long time to complete preparation process. You should have sufficient time for preparation. The best way to start preparing for the two years before the exam i.e., if you are pursuing a two-year course and you will become eligible to appear for the specific competitive exam then it is better to start when you enroll for the course.
If you really keep your goal in mind and understand that you would like to be then to realize your goal you should be very serious from the day one of the preparation processes. If you do so, then you will not have to do excessive hard labor before the exam. You need to take extra preparation and extra time to invest to do well.
So, your actual preparation should start from at least eight weeks before the exam. But that means you must stick to a meticulously worked out schedule and detailed plan of actions. It also draws some of the factors like your intelligence, your grasping power, your study techniques, time allocation for study and the understanding of the subjects.
Study the syllabus from the point of view of the examiners or paper setters. Suppose you were asked to prepare questions based on this syllabus what would you ask? This will get you in the right frame of mind to understand what you should pay more attention to. I would suggest getting into the details of the syllabus. Try to co-relate and associate the previously studied information with the new one. Remember, it doesnโt matter how much score your college, or institution awards you, rather passing a competitive exam would really matter, so devote as much time as possible to get into the subjects and concepts. You should give emphasis to understanding the concepts rather than snatching up and vomiting data.
Tip #5: Try To Understand the Subject Than Simply Memorizing the Facts:
Go beyond memorization. You should understand the subject that you are studying. Focus on understanding the ideas and concepts in your main texts where you will find facts and well description together. You must be familiar with your study materials of your own subject. Some of the facts and figures you will have to memorize. I would always advise you to read original books from reputed authors and publishers. Develop a strongest possible motive for remembering names, facts, places or events.
