The Charles County Commissioners haveย announced that for an unprecedented ninth year in a row Charles County has been selected by the Center for Digital Government as one of ten โ€œmost digitally advanced countiesโ€ for counties nationwide with populations of less than 150,000.
ย
The 2011 Digital Counties Survey recognizes leading examples of counties using information and communications technology and identifies best electronic practices among counties nationwide. To be eligible for the award, a county must be a member of the National Association of Counties (NACo). There are 3,068 county members of NACo, with more than 2,700 in Charles Countyโ€™s population category. Counties are evaluated based on their use of technologyโ€”both in terms of operating efficiencies and realizing strategic objectives.
ย
The awards are presented annually by the Center for Digital Government, a national research and advisory institute on information technology policies and best practices in state and local government. For more than 20 years, the Center for Digital Government and its sister divisions have been providing public and private-sector leaders with decision support, knowledge, and opportunities to help them succeed in 21st century government.
