WALDORF, Md. — We are receiving reports of a partial building collapse in Charles County that has left one person injured.

At approximately 6:03 p.m. on May 26, crews were dispatched off of Crain Highway for reports that a Chick-Fil-A that was under construction had suffered a partial collapse. Upon arrival, first responders made contact with a single patient who was in need of medical attention.

Records show that a partially constructed wall collapsed on a worker. The construction crew on the scene got the patient pulled out from underneath by the time first responders arrived.

A helicopter from Maryland State Police Aviation had been requested to transport the patient to a nearby hospital. That helicopter was grounded soon after it was called due to bad weather. We do not currently know the status of the patient’s injuries.

We do not currently know what caused the structure collapse, or how substantial the collapse was. The Smallwood Drive location broke ground not too long ago.

This is a developing story. We will continue to provide updates as we receive them.
