Anne Arundel Police Officer Charged In Off-Duty Hit-And-Run Incident

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – On December 28, 2024, a marked Anne Arundel County Police car was involved in a hit and run property damage crash. 

Through investigative resources, the vehicle involved was identified. It was determined that the operator of the vehicle was an Anne Arundel County Police Officer, who was off-duty at the time of the crash.  

On January 27, 2025, the Anne Arundel County Police Officer was charged, via multiple traffic citations, for his involvement in the hit and run crash. The officer is identified as Corporal Russell Ruehl, a five-year veteran of the Anne Arundel County Police Department assigned to the Bureau of Community Services.

Corporal Ruehl has been administratively suspended without pay pending an investigation by the Office of Professional Standards.
