
LEONARDTOWN, Md. – Congratulations to Charles County’s own Archbishop Neale Middle School Varsity Boys Basketball Team for winning the Southern Maryland Youth Basketball League (SMYBL) Championship for the second year in a row.
On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, in front of a packed gym at St. Mary’s Ryken High School, the Archbishop Neale School Eagles of La Plata, Md., led for most of the game and defeated the Little Flower School Patriots from Great Mills, Md., with a final score of 40 – 36.

Under the leadership of Head Coach Lloyd Lumpkin II, the Archbishop Neale Eagles Team Captain and two-time All-Tournament player Rodney Hunt, Jr. led the team in scoring with 18 points.
Fellow Team Captain Easton Tameling had a monster game on the boards and finished with 6 points. A.J. Wise, who also made the All-Tournament Team, came up clutch at the end of the game with some big free throws and finished with 8 points.
Luke Stum and Liam Carson, who also played well and made critical contributions on both offense and defense, rounded out the scoring with 6 and 2 points, respectively.
SMYBL is a private school league consisting of teams from Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s Counties.
