
The Calvert County Sheriff’s Department sent out an advisory that a speed camera in front of Mill Creek Middle School is now operational.
This advisory comes after the sheriff’s department announced the implementationย of traffic cameras in the area last week.
“The program will provide automated enforcement in school zones with a posted speed limit of at least 20 miles per hour, ” a sheriff’s office press release reads in part. “Speed cameras provide police with one more tool to protect pedestrians and other motorists by targeting aggressive driving behaviors.”
Calvert County will be working with the Brekford Corporation that will provide and maintain the cameras.
The speed cameras are portable and will be strategicallyย placed in school zones throughout the county.
“The first camera locations will be Mill Creek Middle School, Northern High School, and Mt. Harmony Elementary,” according to the press release.
Here is further important information associated:
- The fine for violating the posted speed limit is $40.00 for each violation.
- Violators traveling 12 miles over the posted speed limit will activate the speed camera which will result in a violation notice being issued via the US Mail.ย
- All violators may pay the fine or request a court date to contest violation notices.
- During the implementation of the Countyโs program, which will begin on July, 18, 2016, there will be a 30-day period where only warnings will be issued.
- After that period, fines will be issued to violators.
- Photo violations do not result in points and cannot be used to increase a personโs insurance rates.
- The operation ofthe speed cameras are restricted to Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.ย
