Lusby, MD — Sally Hamilton, manager of the SMILE (Service Makes Individual Lives Exciting) Thrift Store in Lusby, says that you can get just as much as you give when you become a volunteer.
“We become a community, make friends. It’s a happy place to work. We have more laughter than anything,” Hamilton says.
The SMILE Thrift store, located at 10290 H G Trueman Rd in Lusby, offers women’s clothes, maternity wear, children’s clothes, men’s clothes, furniture, home decor, appliances, toys, exercise equipment and much more for sale. Proceeds go to fund SMILE Inc.
The local charity operates a food pantry, offers emergency financial assistance to those in need, free seasonal clothing for needy kids, and counseling on avoiding foreclosure. The group also distributes Thanksgiving baskets and hosts a Christmas dinner.
The proceeds from the thrift shop support these activities and Hamilton says the store is in desperate need of volunteers.
Anyone from high school juniors on up is welcome to volunteer.
The store is open 4 days a week: 10-2 Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday and Saturday 9-12.
