The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs split a pair of games with the Long Island Ducks on Sunday afternoon losing Game 1 in 12 innings by a score of 3-2 before shutting out Long Island in Game 2 2-0.

GAME 1: LONG ISLAND 3, SOUTHERN MARYLAND 2 (12)

In a wild extra-inning affair that took 3 hours and 57 minutes, Adam Bailey hit a two-out, two-run double in the top of the 12th to give the Ducks a 3-1 lead and they would hold on for a dramatic 3-2 victory in Game 1. Southern Maryland rallied for a run in the bottom of the 12th on a sacrifice fly, but left the tying run at second base.

David Kopp (1-0) received the win throwing two scoreless innings out of the bullpen for the Ducks while Jake Brown (2-2) suffered the loss. Jon Meloan got through the 12th inning for his first save of the season.

In his first at bat with the Blue Crabs in the 2nd inning, Luke Murton lined a double off the top of the wall that scored Jake Opitz to put Southern Maryland in front 1-0. Opitz had three of the teamโ€™s five hits in the game.

Long Island tied up the game with a run in the top of the 5th. With runners on the corners and no one out, Lew Ford reached on a fielderโ€™s choice and Fehlandt Lentini came into score on an error by Opitz at third base to tie the game at 1-1.

Bobby Blevins did not factor in the decision but was lights out for the Ducks. He went eight innings allowing one run on three hits with four strikeouts. He retired the last 13 batters he faced in his outing.

GAME 2: SOUTHERN MARYLAND 2, LONG ISLAND 0

Southern Maryland broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the bottom of the 6th to earn a 2-0 shutout win and a doubleheader split. Dave Sappelt singled through the drawn-in infield to plate Jonny Kaplan and eventually scored on a Jake Opitz sac fly for a 2-0 lead.

Jake Brown (3-2) responded after the Game 1 loss and threw two scoreless innings of relief for the win in the second game while Steve Garrison (0-2) was saddled with the loss. Charlie Manning pitched a scoreless 7th inning for his first save of the season.

Both starters pitched well in Game 2 but didnโ€™t factor in the decision.

Wade Korpi tossed four scoreless frames for the Blue Crabs while Casey Barnes went five scoreless innings for the Ducks.

The Blue Crabs wrap up their five-game series against the Long Island Ducks tomorrowย  night at 7:05 PM.
