The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs have announced plans to make up their June 18 home game against the Camden Riversharks which was postponed by rain. The game will be made up on Thursday, July 9 at 6:35 p.m. The gates at Regency Furniture Stadium will open at 5:30 p.m. For the Blue Crabs and Riversharks, the game will be the 70th of the season for the respective clubs, marking the end of the Atlantic League’s first half.

With the make-up game being played just four days before Crystal Palace F.C. of London comes to the home of the Blue Crabs to take on their affiliate club, Crystal Palace USA of Baltimore, July 9 has been dubbed “Soccer Night,” at Regency Furniture Stadium. Any youth soccer player that comes to the ballpark wearing their uniform will be admitted free to the game. In addition, players from Crystal Palace USA will be on hand before the baseball game to conduct a pre-game skills demonstration on the field for any and all youth soccer players in attendance.
As always, any youth baseball or softball player that comes to Regency Furniture Stadium wearing their uniform will be admitted free to the ballgame on July 9. It will truly be a night for the kids, as the game has also been added to the schedule as a “Backfin Buddies Night,” the official kids club of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. It’s also a “Silver Sluggers Bonus Game,” an open invitation to the members of the Blue Crabs senior club for fans age 50 and older. As a bonus for Silver Sluggers, there will be pre-game stadium walking at 6 p.m.
Finally, the Blue Crabs full-season ticket holders will enjoy a complimentary picnic in the picnic pavilion in left field beginning at 6 p.m. that evening. There is no charge, and the gathering is open to 70-game season ticket holders only.
“When you look at all the things we’ve got going on for July 9, the make-up game will be a great way to end the first half of the 2009 season,” said Blue Crabs General Manager Chris Allen. “Even though this game was not on our original schedule, I think it could be a blessing in disguise thanks to these great events. As we get ready to host our friends from the UK and Baltimore for the soccer match on July 13, next Thursday will be a great night to bring everyone together.”
