LUSBY, Md. – The Saint Leonard Volunteer Fire Department is providing an update regarding the medical emergency that occurred Saturday evening April 18, at the 300 block of Planters Wharf Road.

During operations at the attic fire, a 56‑year‑old firefighter suffered a sudden medical emergency and collapsed. Firefighters and EMS personnel immediately initiated CPR and deployed an automated external defibrillator (AED), delivering multiple shocks. Their rapid actions successfully restored his pulse, and he was transported by Maryland State Police Aviation Command Trooper 7 to a specialized cardiac hospital.

The firefighter is now in stable condition and has undergone a procedure to place three stents to address previously undiagnosed blockages. He remains under medical care as he begins his recovery.

The Saint Leonard Volunteer Fire Department is extending their sincere appreciation to their mutual-aid partners and support agencies whose assistance ensured uninterrupted service to the community during this incident. This incident underscores the lifesaving importance of early CPR and immediate access to AEDs, said the fire department officials. Officials added, they’re proud of the swift, professional actions taken by everyone on scene and grateful for the outpouring of support, thoughts, and prayers from the community and neighboring departments.
