LANCASTER PA – Southern Maryland picked up their first series win in the month of August after defeating the Lancaster Barnstormers by the final of 4-3.

The Blue Crabs took an early lead in Thursday’s rubber match as Alfredo Marte singled then stole second to reach scoring position. Angel Flores hit an RBI single to score Marte and put the Blue Crabs on the board in the top of the third.

Southern Maryland put up three more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Antoan Richardson led the frame off with a double, and scored on a Bryant Nelson double two batters later. Alfredo Marte and Zach Wilson both walked to load the bases. Eric Garcia singled, scoring two more runs and giving the Blue Crabs a four run advantage.

The Barnstormers threatened in the bottom of the fifth inning, coming within one run of the Blue Crabs’ lead. Caleb Gindl homered with Kevin Ahrens on first and Yusuke Kajimoto on third to make the score 4-3. Blue Crabs relievers Scott Snodgress and Craig Stem, and closer Cody Eppley were lights out against the Barnstormers, not giving up any hits in three and one-third innings pitched.

The Blue Crabs continue their road trip with a three-game series against the Somerset Patriots, beginning tomorrow at TD Bank Ballpark AT 7:05 p.m.
