ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. — A winter tradition that began in the 1600s is getting a Southern Maryland twist this December as Historic St. Mary’s City presents Frost Fair on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, from 1 to 6 p.m.
Inspired by the famous Frost Fairs once held on London’s frozen River Thames, this outdoor festival will transform Maryland’s first capital into a holiday village with festive lights, live entertainment and seasonal charm. Guests can look forward to a day of family fun, shopping and sweet treats — all set against the museum’s historic backdrop.
Visitors can stop by the State House Gingerbread Zone for crafts and photo ops, visit Santa aboard the holiday tram, and let kids discover the joy of giving at the Kids’ Secret Shop, where they can pick out gifts for family members. Carolers will fill the air with classic tunes as guests browse local artisan and merchant vendors, warm up by the fire pits and sip hot cocoa or seasonal drinks from the Copper Rein Horse Trailer Bar, featuring a signature prosecco holiday cocktail.
The celebration continues with food trucks, a festive film and dance party in the Pavilion, and special attractions like the Patuxent Dental Winter Dome and Visit St. Mary’s/Anderson Windows Snow Globe, offering photo opportunities for families.
Frost Fair is open to families, friends and anyone looking to kick off the holiday season with something unique and memorable. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children, or $20 for families (two parents and up to three children). The event will take place rain or shine, barring severe weather.
Historic St. Mary’s City is located at 47414 Old State House Road, St. Mary’s City, MD.
