
LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — A Lexington Park man is facing burglary and property damage charges after allegedly kicking in the front door of a residence to get a cigarette and leaving behind unauthorized artwork. Jorge Alexander Suarez-Cerquera, 31, of Lexington Park, Maryland, was charged with fourth-degree burglary of a dwelling and malicious destruction of property valued at less than $1,000 following the March 6, 2026, incident.
According to police reports, officers responded to a disturbance call at a local residence in Lexington Park. Upon arrival, officers observed a man in the front yard and driveway. The individual was identified as Suarez-Cerquera.
Officers then spoke with the resident, who alleged that Suarez-Cerquera had forcibly kicked the bottom of the front door to gain entry, causing visible damage to the door’s bottom hinges. Investigators also noted that Suarez-Cerquera had drawn artwork on the door without the homeowner’s consent.
Police reports indicate that after being read his Miranda rights, Suarez-Cerquera allegedly admitted to breaking down the front door with the intent of entering the residence to obtain a cigarette.
A summons was issued to Suarez-Cerquera on March 6, 2026, and the case is scheduled to proceed through the local court system, with upcoming hearings scheduled for April 17, 2026.
If convicted, Suarez-Cerquera faces potential penalties under Maryland law, including imprisonment of up to 1 year for fourth-degree burglary of a dwelling and additional fines or restitution for property damage.
