
Word of the Fox 5 Zip Trip has spread like wildfire, but there is so much more happening in Leonardtown this coming weekend.ย Friday night, August 7, from 5 โ 8 p.m. participating businesses will have a specials and themed dรฉcor for Flip Flop First Friday.ย Bob Schaller and Friends join the event at 6 p.m. live in the Square to continue the Blues Jam that got rained out in July.ย
Saturday morning, August 8, starting at 10 a.m. the Southern Maryland Boat Club will hold their first APBA sanctioned Summer Regatta at the Leonardtown Wharf Park.ย Historic racing boats come home to Breton Bay to run exhibition heats until at least 3 p.m. Spectators welcome. Event is free to the public and free parking available in Town with a short walk to the Wharf. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited at this venue, but there are plenty of licensed establishments in Town where you can wet your whistle and grab a bite to eat after the Regatta.
Continue the fun Saturday with Leonardtown’s Beach Party on the Square from 4 โ 9 p.m.ย Come play in our version of the beach featuring 40 tons of sand, a fire truck hose down waterfall, 25th Hour Band rockin’ the Square all night long, Big Larry’s Eatery First-Ever Hot Dog Eating Contest at 5:30, and volleyball, tug-of-war with CSM’s Wellness Center Staff, and kayak rentals at the Wharf.ย The entertainment continues with live performances from Mermaid Alexis & Captain Nate, Tricks of the Trade juggling, and balloon twisting with Balloon Nerd Brian Garner.ย The kids can enjoy the inflated waterslide, moon bounce, and the now-famous Wrecking Ball!ย Cheer on the Running of the Balls at 7 p.m., and watch Daughters of Veda gracefully perform the daring candelabra dance.ย Face painting, giveaways, food, games, contests, and Zumba with emcee Jackie Nolan round out the event!
Though streets into Downtown will be closed for the event, parking is available in the public lots, or you may park at the College of Southern Maryland โ Leonardtown Campus and take the shuttle into Town Square.ย Handicap parking will be available via Fenwick Street along Park Avenue and Courthouse Drive.
