PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — The Calvert County School Foundation announced their 2025 grant recipients at the Sept. 25 board meeting after putting out a call for applications earlier this year. The foundation provides these grants to help educators and staff get funding for projects that may not otherwise be included in the regular budget.
Retired educator and the foundation’s president, Donna Ostenso, presented a check to each grant recipient and gave an overview of their project. There were 13 recipients this year, receiving the funds for projects running from a fishing program in physical education classes to STEAM summer camps to a playground communication board. Grants totaled $37,686.95.
Ostenso said that while she was preparing for the evening she found a newspaper clipping from the foundation’s first year in 2017, where the foundation gave out four grants totaling $3,000.
“When you think about 2017 to 2025, I think that says a lot about our foundation, but also about the innovative and creative ideas that our staff has,” Ostenso said. “And fortunately we’re able to fund them.”
The foundation awarded grants to about one-third of the grant applications they received. Ostenso also thanked Constellation Energy and Educational Systems Federal Credit Union for their support.
The grant recipients are below.
