PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) is pleased to welcome two new officers to the department.
At the July 28 Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) meeting, Sheriff Ricky Cox introduced the two newest officers to the commissioners. This event is part of a tradition to have the officers swear their oath in the presence of the board following the completion of their training. Sheriff Ricky Cox has expanded this to include lateral police officers from other Maryland law enforcement agencies.
“This provides a meaningful opportunity for new deputies, their families, friends, fellow deputies, the BOCC, and the public to commemorate this significant milestone together,” Assistant Sheriff Dave Payne wrote in a memo to the BOCC.
The two new officers are:
Deputy Ian Flaherty, a Calvert County resident and graduate of Patuxent High School. Flaherty completed his training in December 2024 while employed in a “neighboring jurisdiction.” Flaherty officially joined CCSO on June 1, 2026, and brings two years of prior law enforcement experience.
“Deputy Ian Flaherty’s background and experience will be a valuable asset to the agency,” Sheriff Cox said.
Deputy Christopher Blackistone is also a Calvert County resident and will be joining the CCSO as a contract school resource officer (SRO). Blackistone will begin work when students return for the 2026-27 school year in August. With the addition of Deputy Blackistone, Calvert County will have an SRO in every school in the district.
