PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — As part of meeting their requirements, Calvert’s Planning Commission reviewed its activity for 2025 and reviewed its responsibilities going into the next year at its May 20 meeting.
The work responsibilities of the PC and/or staff can be divided into four basic categories: planning, zoning, development review and administrative. The Planning Commission’s current bylaws require the Planning Commission to meet annually in May, at either a regular or special meeting, to review the prior year’s work and progress made on the implementation of the county’s comprehensive plan.
According to the presentation by Planning Commission Administrator Ruth Davis-Rogers, the Planning Commission reviewed, discussed or acted upon four plan amendments and two Priority Funding Area certification requests; two APF for School reports for spring and fall; and five Town Center Master Plan updates for Prince Frederick, Dunkirk, St. Leonard and Owings. They also oversaw six text and/or map amendment cases, six work sessions and three public hearings, and heard numerous cases for development review.
The report is just for informational purposes, and once approved by the Planning Commission, is sent to the Board of County Commissioners for review.
Following Davis-Rogers’ presentation, the Planning Commission nominated Wilson Freeland to take over as chair. Freeland, previously serving as vice chair, will replace John Toohey. Chris Gadway was then voted in as vice chair, replacing Freeland.
