Celebrate National Trails Day at Historic St. Mary’s City! Members of the Chesapeake Bay Running Club are hosting a 5K Fun Run and Walk. on Saturday, June 6, at 8 a.m. Meet at the HSMC Visitor Center off Rosecroft Road to register and begin the race.
The course is a beautiful wooded trail that meanders through woods, along fields, and by the St. Mary’s River and St. Andrew’s Creek. Race day registration begins at 7 a.m. The registration fee is $12 and the first thirty registrants will receive a National Trails Day T-Shirt. There will be plenty of post-run snacks and drinks for all.
A long-standing celebration of America’s magnificent trail system and its countless supporters and volunteers, National Trails Day is celebrated in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. The slogan for National Trails Day 2009, Take in the Outdoors, is an open invitation to all Americans to get outside and experience everything the great outdoors has to offer.
After the race, HSMC is offering an opportunity for visitors to participate in the very popular hobby of geocaching. Combining hiking with using GPS to find a hidden cache, this activity is a great way to explore the outdoors. In celebration of the 375th anniversary of Maryland’s founding, the cache will contain some very special souvenirs. Stop in at the Visitor Center between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to pick up the cache coordinates.
