LA PLATA, Md. — Charles County is pressing play again on its Mixtape Concert Series, with two new concerts on the calendar and performer announcements expected in the coming weeks.

The Department of Recreation, Parks and Tourism presented an update on the series during the Charles County Board of Commissioners meeting Tuesday, July 21.

The next round of concerts will include:

  • October 2026: Country
  • June 2027: Hip-hop and R&B

The October country concert is planned for Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf. County tourism officials said they were negotiating with an artist who was available and interested, though a contract had not yet been signed as of the meeting.

Officials said the country artist will be announced once the contract is finalized. The county is also considering several performers for the June 2027 hip-hop and R&B concert.

County officials said the genres were selected using a combination of local survey results, regional ticket demand and booking history data compiled with Degy360, the county’s event-planning partner.

That market analysis found hip-hop and R&B to be the strongest performing genre, with a 90% booking history in Charles County and 88% regional ticket demand. Country ranked second, with a 75% booking history and 85% regional ticket demand.

A separate resident survey produced similar results — 26% of respondents named R&B their favorite genre, while 24% picked country.

Those numbers also tracked with ticket sales from the 2025 concert series, where the R&B show was the top-performing concert of the three, followed by country.

A Look Back At The First Mixtape Series

The county launched the Mixtape Concert Series in 2025 with three nights of national entertainment:

The series was created to attract visitors, support local businesses, generate economic activity and give Southern Maryland residents more entertainment options close to home — while also giving the county a chance to use Regency Furniture Stadium for more than baseball.

Charles County is partnering with Degy360, an entertainment consulting company that will assist throughout the planning process.

Could The Concerts Move Around The County?

The October concert will be held at Regency Furniture Stadium because the site already has ticketing, concessions and other infrastructure needed for a large event.

However, county officials said future concerts could be held at other locations, including the Charles County Fairgrounds or privately owned venues. Officials said the county is not committed to using the stadium long term, but other sites would require additional spending for equipment, barricades, staging and other necessities.

The county is also looking for sustainable funding, corporate sponsorships, additional event staff and an industry-specific communications partner. Longer-term goals include finding a large indoor entertainment venue and purchasing a permanent event stage and shelter that could be used for concerts, graduations and other county events.

Exact concert dates, ticket information and the names of performers will be announced once contracts and other details are finalized.
