WALDORF, Md. — Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) announced an update stating it does not anticipate any disruptions to student transportation when schools reopen Jan. 5, following an earlier notice regarding a payroll issue involving one of its contracted bus companies.
The update, issued Dec. 31, follows a previous notice from Dec. 27, which informed families that Stanley Bus Company, a transportation contractor for CCPS, was experiencing operational challenges that could have impacted employee pay and disrupted service.
“CCPS does not expect any transportation interruptions when students return to school Jan. 5,” the school system stated in the Dec. 31 update. “The contractor noted below has compensated its employees.”
CCPS clarified that the issue was not related to school system funding but stemmed from the private contractor’s internal finances. In the updated statement, school officials confirmed that the company has now compensated its employees.
In the original Dec. 27 statement, CCPS wrote, “Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) is aware of a financial issue one of our bus contractors (Stanley Bus Company) is experiencing that has affected their ability to pay their employees. This is not a CCPS financial issue.”
