Commissioners Honor Life And Service Of Randall “Randy” Hill At Memorial

LEONARDTOWN, Md. — The Commissioners of St. Mary’s County gathered Jan. 6 to honor the life and service of Randall Andrew “Randy” Hill, remembering a county employee whose quiet dedication and commitment to public service left a lasting impact on the community.

Hill, 59, passed away May 24, 2025. Born July 20, 1965, in Leonardtown, Hill was raised in the Chaptico area, where he built a life centered on family, friendship and service to others.

During the memorial, Commissioner President Randy Guy reflected on Hill’s contributions and expressed condolences on behalf of the board.

“Now, therefore, we the commissioners of St. Mary’s County hereby express our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the family of Randall Andrew Hill, Randy,” Guy said. “And honor his legacy and contributions to our community, on this date Jan. 6, 2026.”

Hill’s career included years as a heavy equipment operator with Bowling Brothers Excavating and then St. Mary’s County government since 2023. He served in the Department of Public Works & Transportation – Highway Division, where his work supported the county’s roadways.

“You can see in the back there’s 40-plus folks here, but just in the two years he was with us, Randy became close friends with all of us,” Rick Tarr, who manages the county highways for the department, said. “Randy was a mentor to a lot of the younger folks as well, and he was close, he became a close friend.”

As a member of the Highway Division, Hill was involved in roadway repairs, traffic control, storm response, tree trimming and other critical tasks aimed at improving roadway safety. Commissioners noted that his work was especially vital during severe weather events and winter storms, when residents depend on safe and reliable roads.

“Randy was known among his colleagues for his warm personality and friendly nature, forming strong bonds with the coworkers and bringing comrade and kindness to every workday,” Guy said. “Qualities that will be fondly remembered.”

The commissioners concluded the memorial by formally recognizing Hill’s service with a plaque of his time in service along with the late government employees in the lobby of the Chesapeake Building.
