La Plata, MD –  On Tuesday, Feb. 7, the Charles County Board of Commissioners recognized February 2017 as Black History Month in Charles County. The Charles County Commissioners recognize African Americans play an important role in Charles County and American history. Charles County has been the home of several historical African-American figures and countless other unsung heroes who have contributed to its rich history.

 

Charles County Commissioners along with representatives from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the College of Southern Maryland.

The 2017 theme of Black History Month, as determined by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, is “The Crisis in Black Education,” and highlights the crucial role of education in the current condition and history of African Americans
