CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Md. – An employee of a Capitol Heights convenience store was fatally shot behind the business in an apparent robbery. Prince George’s County Police have charged a suspect in connection with the incident, which occurred on December 18, 2024, on Walker Mill Road.

Police were called to the 24/7 Mega Convenience & Tobacco Store around 2:39 PM after reports of a shooting. Officers found 29-year-old Rakib Rabik unresponsive near a dumpster. Emergency responders pronounced him deceased at 3:10 PM. Investigators determined that Rabik had suffered a gunshot wound to the forehead.

Surveillance footage showed Rabik taking out the store’s trash shortly before the shooting. A man wearing a gray hoodie, black face mask, light jeans, and white-and-black Jordan sneakers approached Rabik with a handgun. The suspect directed Rabik toward the dumpster, took an item from his pocket, and then shot him before fleeing on foot toward Addison Road South. Police recovered three 10-mm shell casings at the scene, and Rabik’s phone was later found about a mile away.

During the investigation, two individuals came forward, expressing concern that their son, 25-year-old Geonte Maurice McNeil-Williams, might be involved. McNeil-Williams, who reportedly suffers from bipolar disorder, was said to have been off his medication. When shown surveillance footage, the individuals identified him as the suspect, stating, “That’s definitely the identical clothes that he had on. That’s him.”

McNeil-Williams has been charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Under Maryland law, a conviction for first-degree murder carries a potential sentence of life imprisonment, with or without the possibility of parole. Armed robbery is punishable by up to 20 years in prison. The use of a firearm in the commission of a felony is a separate offense carrying a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and up to 20 years, which must be served consecutively to any other sentences.

Prince George’s County Police continue to investigate the incident and encourage anyone with additional information to come forward. Rabik’s death has prompted renewed discussion on community safety and mental health resources.
