Ink, Music, Magic And More: Cruel Summer Tattoo Arts Festival Returns To Waldorf Bigger Than Ever

WALDORF, Md. — Looking for something different this summer? The Cruel Summer Tattoo Arts Festival is back and bigger than ever, bringing three days of tattoos, live music, entertainment, competitions, vendors and family-friendly fun to Waldorf from July 31 through Aug. 2.

After making its mark in 2025, Cruel Summer is back with more ink, more entertainment and more energy than ever before. Presented by Village Tattoo & Body Piercing, the festival returns to Waldorf with an expanded lineup of artists, performers and attractions designed to keep attendees coming back all weekend long.

If you’ve been thinking about getting your next tattoo, now is the time to check the artist lineup. Browse portfolios, follow artists on social media and find the style that speaks to you before festival weekend arrives. The most in-demand artists often fill their books before the doors even open, so don’t wait too long if you spot someone whose work you love.

And yes — the entire family is welcome.

While tattoos are the main event, Cruel Summer is a summer festival packed with live music, sideshow entertainment, burlesque performances, tattoo competitions and vendors. Kids can enjoy temporary tattoos while attendees watch talented artists transform skin into living artwork.

Whether you’re coming for the tattoos or the entertainment, Cruel Summer offers a one-of-a-kind weekend in Southern Maryland.

Entertainment Throughout The Weekend

One of the biggest additions this year is live music, helping transform Cruel Summer from a tattoo convention into a full weekend festival experience. The stage stays packed with musicians, performers and specialty acts, ensuring there’s always something happening between tattoo competitions and artist showcases.

Throughout the weekend, attendees can catch daily performances from magician and mentalist Jordan Jonas, sword-swallowing sideshow star Doctor Finnegan’s Circus, internationally known contortionist archer Camille Zamboni and burlesque performer Cervena Fox.

Tattoo Competitions All Weekend

Tattoo competitions remain at the heart of the festival experience.

Artists and clients will compete in multiple categories throughout the weekend, with Expert Tattoo of the Day awards presented daily and top honors awarded to some of the festival’s most impressive work.

Friday night’s Open Tattoo Competition is open to tattoos completed outside the festival, and artists do not need to be present to enter. The festival will also feature an Art Gallery Competition, giving artists another opportunity to showcase their creativity.

Festival entries completed during the event give attendees a front-row seat to the creative process from start to finish as artists transform skin into award-worthy artwork.

Judges Yallzee, Eric Badan, James Vaughn and Megan Duffy will spend the weekend checking out fresh ink, crowning competition winners and spotlighting some of the festival’s most incredible artwork.

There’s even more on the line than trophies this year. Along with the tattoo competitions, Sunday will feature a collection of classic cars and Proper Tattoo Maintenance & Care’s 2026 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 giveaway vehicle. Visitors can stop by to see the Corvette and learn more about how to enter.
