COSMIC Symphony, under the direction of Vladimir Lande, pairs music and art in its final performances of the season.ย The symphonyโs โDo You See What I Hearโ program is in its third year of partnership with public and private schools in Calvert, Charles and St. Maryโs Counties.
Artworks created by students in elementary, middle and high schools visually interpreting music on the concert program will be showcased at each of the two final concerts.ย Last year, over one hundred works of student art were submitted and displayed.ย The young artists receive free admission to the concerts.ย Performances take place on Saturday, May 17, at 7 PM, at Great Mills High School in Great Mills, and on Sunday, May 18, at 4PM, at Huntingtown High School in Huntingtown.
The concert, entitled โTo B & B & Bโ features Leonard Bernsteinโs popular โCandide Overtureโ, Ludwig van Beethovenโs โSymphony No. 3โ (Eroica), and a Fantasie with solo saxophone based on Georges Bizetโs โCarmenโ.ย ย Saxophonist Gary Louie will be the featured soloist.ย Mr. Louie, a native of Washington, D.C., has earned an admired niche in the music world for his dedication to championing the artistic possibilities and expanding the repertoire of the saxophone. ย
