Drum Point Lighthouse Reopens Following Renovations

SOLOMONS, Md. — The Calvert Marine Museum announced online that renovations are complete at Drum Point Lighthouse.

The announcement was made in a July 27 Facebook post, welcoming visitors back to the lighthouse to “explore one of Southern Maryland’s most iconic landmarks, take in the views, and experience a piece of Chesapeake Bay history.”

The lighthouse is located at the Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons and is a popular part of museum visits. The lighthouse was built in 1883 on the Patuxent River and was decommissioned in 1962 before being moved to the museum in 1975, where it was restored.

The lighthouse closed May 4 for scheduled exterior painting and preservation work. The project was initially expected to take four to six weeks and was intended to help maintain the structural integrity and historical appearance of the lighthouse.

The Calvert Marine Museum introduced its long-term strategic plan in May, which includes a drive toward sustainability and preserving the museum for future generations.

Visitors to the Calvert Marine Museum can access the lighthouse by purchasing a museum ticket. Adult ticket prices are $11, children ages 5-12 are $6, and children younger than 5 are free. The museum also offers discounts for seniors and others, and memberships are available for individuals and families.
