<Annapolis, MD โ€“ Political news sources nationwide were reporting Monday afternoon, Dec. 19 that pleas for presidential electors bound to vote for Republican Donald Trump to renege on that pledge are not being answered. The New York City business mogul who garnered just over 300 electoral votes in the November General Election to defeat Democrat Hilary Clintonโ€”despite being out-polled in the popular voteโ€”appeared on his way to victory.

Electors gathered at state capitols throughout the country and demonstrators were on hand to greet them at virtually every location. Among the more notable effort to thwart Trumpโ€™s victory was a video by several Hollywood celebrities encouraging Republican electors not to cast their ballot for their partyโ€™s 2016 standard bearer but instead allow the House of Representatives to decide. Republicans currently hold a majority in the House and retained that advantage following last monthโ€™s election.

Demonstrators even showed up in Annapolis, despite the fact that all the electors were Democrats. Clinton won Marylandโ€™s 10 electoral votes, winning the state with 60 percent of the popular vote. Among the 10 electors was a prominent Southern Maryland resident, former state agriculture secretary Hagner Reid Mister of Calvert County.
Congress will certify the result of the Electoral Collegeโ€™s balloting Jan. 6, two weeks prior to Inauguration Day.
