A Tavola Con Ellynne In Italy

Am Tisch Mit Ellynne Auf Deutschland

(At the Table With Ellynne in Italy/Germany)

R&R on the Rhine River

We had two full days remaining on our vacation. Weโ€™d already seen the very best of our region by cruising up and back to Rhinefels, the Rhineโ€™s greatest castle, high above the tiny town of St. Goar. Now to explore Bacharach โ€“ named for โ€œBacchusโ€, the god of wine, and โ€œhomeโ€ to our B&B, Hotel Bar; Restaurant Bei-der-Post run by Becky and Gary Crosby (www.pension-bacharach.de).

We found the Church of St. Peter right in the center of town, St. Josefโ€™s Chapel, the Internet Cafรฉ, and the Tourist Office all close by, and hiked alllll the way up to the ruins of the Chapel of Werner (the symbol of Bacharach) and to the Burg Stahleck โ€“ a former fortress, now a youth hostel (since 1925).We even found the Italian ice-cream cafรฉ (Eis Cafรฉ Italia) and stopped in for a single-scoop cone.

Based on our Rick Stevesโ€™ย Best of Europeย Guidebook, we decided that we must see the 14-th century Altes Haus (Old House) in the market square with its reputation as one of the most famous medieval buildings in the Rhine area. Its first floor is made of stone and the top floors are of the half-timbered style common to the Rhine Valley. We checked out the old photos displayed in the charming first-floor dining area, but were more interested in the

Weingarten right next door.
