maryland criminal summons

POMFRET, Md. — A Pomfret man is facing felony theft and unauthorized vehicle removal charges after allegedly taking a family member’s vehicle without permission, according to court documents.

Wayne Oden Cox III, 26, of Pomfret, was charged Feb. 11, 2026 with unauthorized removal of a motor vehicle and theft of property valued between $1,500 and $25,000.

According to the application for statement of charges, the incident occurred Feb. 7 at a residence in Pomfret. Court records indicate Cox was inside the home when he began acting erratically, yelling and using profanity.

Investigators allege Cox entered a purse without permission and removed car keys belonging to a family member. Despite being explicitly denied permission to use the vehicle, Cox allegedly went into the garage and drove away in a 2015 Ford Fusion.

Charging documents state the vehicle, valued at approximately $8,000, belonged to the family member and was taken without consent.

A criminal summons was issued Feb. 11. A preliminary inquiry hearing is scheduled for March 30, 2026, in Charles County District Court.
