Ronald Joseph Despres (63, of Mechanicsville) was driving his Honda motorcycle north on Md. Rt. 5 at the intersection of Md. Rt. 231. He struck a patch of ice and crashed his bike, landing on the road.
A station wagon in the other lane behind Despres, stopped in the roadway to avoid the crash scene. Behind that vehicle was Richard Michael Meyers (56, of Upper Marlboro) in a 2005 Freightliner Straight Truck. Not having seen the crash, Meyers swerved around the station wagon to avoid hitting it, but struck Despres as he lay on the roadway.
Despres died at the scene. Meyers was not injured.

Tomajean Vanlowe (54, of Indian Head) died Friday December 14th at Civista Hospital from injuries she sustained in a car crash that afternoon.
Vanlowe was driving northbound in the southbound lane on Route 224, north of Harris Place. She struck Chris Eric Simmons (48, of Marbury) head-on as he drove southbound on Route 224, north of Harris Place
Vanlowe was transported to Civista Hospital in La Plata were she succumbed to her injuries. Simmons was flown by medivac helicopter to Prince George’s Hospital Shock Trauma Center. Simmons is being treated for his injuries.
