Fire At New Forest Apartments Deemed Accidental, Two Firefighters Injured

WALDORF, Md. — A fire that broke out at the New Forest Apartments building early Saturday morning, June 8, 2024, has been determined to be accidental, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal. Two firefighters were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The fire, discovered by a neighbor, originated on the patio of apartment 2 at the 6016 New Forest Court location with 8 apartments.

The Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department, the primary responding crew, managed to control the fire within 20 minutes. A total of 52 firefighters were dispatched to the 2 alarm call. The apartment complex was equipped with smoke alarms which were activated during the incident.

The fire caused an estimated $400,000 in damages.

Ten residents were displaced due to the fire and are now being assisted by the American Red Cross.
