HUNTINGTOWN, Md. — On Thursday, Aug. 14, 2025, thick black smoke and flames poured from a Huntingtown home as firefighters quickly brought a basement fire under control and rescued a family cat.

The call came in at 5:51 p.m. for the 5600 block of Collington Court. The first arriving engine company found heavy smoke pushing from the rear of the house and fire showing from a basement doorway. Crews advanced a hose line inside and began knocking down the flames.

Additional units secured a water supply, searched the first floor for fire spread, and assisted in basement operations. Ladders were placed for access and ventilation as crews worked to contain the blaze.
