HUNTINGTOWN, Md. — On Thursday, Aug. 14, 2025, thick black smoke and flames poured from a Huntingtown home as firefighters quickly brought a basement fire under control and rescued a family cat.
The call came in at 5:51 p.m. for the 5600 block of Collington Court. The first arriving engine company found heavy smoke pushing from the rear of the house and fire showing from a basement doorway. Crews advanced a hose line inside and began knocking down the flames.
Additional units secured a water supply, searched the first floor for fire spread, and assisted in basement operations. Ladders were placed for access and ventilation as crews worked to contain the blaze.

During the primary search, firefighters located a cat inside the home and provided care before reuniting it with the residents.
No injuries to people were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
