ST. LEONARD, Md. — Fire crews in Calvert County quickly contained a truck fire on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025, that threatened a home in the White Sands community.

St. Leonard Volunteer Fire & Rescue units were dispatched to Ridge View Drive at 1:58 p.m. and arrived to find a full-size pickup truck with a working fire located in the rear of the vehicle. Engine 72, led by Lt. Weems, and Tanker 7, commanded by Fire Chief R. Weems II, responded to the call.

Firefighter Godin and Lt. Schooley stretched a hoseline and launched an aggressive attack, knocking down the flames within minutes. The swift response prevented the fire from spreading to the nearby residence.

Assistant Chief V. DeVries placed the incident under control after crews completed overhaul to ensure the fire was fully out. No injuries were reported.
