Washington, DC – Several news agencies are reporting that flights at three major airports in the Mid-Atlantic Region are being delayed due to an emergency situation at a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) facility in Leesburg, VA. The affected airports are Reagan National, Dulles International and BWI Marshall.
According to sources at the FAA’s Washington Center, fumes were reported in an area where air traffic controllers work, prompting an evacuation. The area is being ventilated and it is unknown at this time when the air traffic controllers will be able to reoccupy and resume work.
Officials at BWI are urging anyone planning to fly out of the airport this evening to re-book their flight. Airport officials reported in-bound flights are being “slowed.”
