LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — A St. Mary’s County man is facing multiple drug-related charges after detectives executed a search warrant and caught him allegedly attempting to flush suspected cocaine down a toilet.
Detectives from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Vice/Narcotics Unit had been investigating the alleged drug distribution activities of Danielyn Marshall Winder. On Feb. 27, 2025, officers obtained a search warrant for Winder and his residence.
At approximately 11:20 a.m., detectives observed Winder leave his home on Munley Lane in Lexington Park and enter a GMC Acadia before driving away. Officers maintained covert surveillance until initiating a vehicle stop at 11:25 a.m. Winder was taken into custody as part of the execution of the search and seizure warrant.
During the search, Winder allegedly attempted to dispose of evidence by flushing a plastic bag containing a white powdery substance down a toilet while officers tried to detain him. Based on their training and experience, detectives suspected the substance was cocaine. The amount allegedly flushed exceeded typical personal-use quantities, further suggesting possession with intent to distribute.
A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a digital scale with white powder residue in the driver’s side door pocket, an item commonly used in drug distribution. Authorities also seized more than $1,300 in cash, which investigators believe was related to drug sales.
After being transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center, Winder underwent a strip search. A correctional officer observed a tied-off plastic bag concealed near Winder’s genitals. Before officers could secure the item, Winder ran into a bathroom and discarded its contents—estimated to be a baseball-sized amount of a white powdery substance—into the toilet.
Winder was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) not cannabis, possession of CDS paraphernalia, obstructing and hindering, possession of CDS production equipment, possession of narcotics production equipment, altering physical evidence in a criminal proceeding, and possession of contraband in a place of confinement.
Court records indicate Winder was held without bond following his initial appearance. A bail review was conducted on Feb. 28, 2025, before Judge Karen Christy Holt Chesser, who upheld the decision to deny bond.
