Free Food, Diapers And Clothing Distribution Set For Saturday In Waldorf

WALDORF, Md. — Shelves at local food pantries have been stretched thin this summer, and organizers across Southern Maryland are teaming up to help fill the gap with a produce, food and clothing distribution set for Saturday in Waldorf.

The event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 11, at the LifeStyles Waldorf Distribution Center, 3410 Leonardtown Road. Items and services will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

The distribution will include fresh produce, nonperishable food, clothing, diapers and wipes, SNAP assistance and medical benefits assistance.

Residents seeking food assistance beyond Saturday’s event can also visit the Maryland Food Bank’s Find Food page to locate partner resources in their area.

Who Is Hosting The Distribution

Saturday’s event brings together four organizations with a shared commitment to meeting basic needs in Southern Maryland. Each partner is contributing a different piece of the distribution, from food and diapers to healthcare access.

LifeStyles of Maryland is organizing the event with support from the Maryland Food Bank, Maryland Diaper Bank and CareFirst Community Health Plan Maryland.

LifeStyles of Maryland, headquartered in La Plata, has served Charles County families for decades through its Samaritan Program, which provides food and clothing assistance, along with emergency shelter and housing support through its Southern Crossing initiative.

The organization sees roughly 14,000 people annually across its programs and operates its Waldorf Distribution Center — the site of Saturday’s event — as a regular resource hub for residents seeking food, clothing and other essentials. Those wishing to support LifeStyles’ work can donate online or drop off nonperishable food and bottled water at the organization’s main office at 101 Catalpa Drive, Suite 103, in La Plata.

Maryland Food Bank’s Role

The Maryland Food Bank is the state’s largest hunger-relief organization, distributing food through a network of partner pantries, shelters and community organizations statewide, including the Southern Maryland Food Bank, which redistributes to Charles and St. Mary’s counties. The organization relies heavily on monetary donations, food drives and volunteers to keep pantry shelves stocked. Donations can be made online, and residents seeking additional food assistance can use the Maryland Food Bank’s Find Food tool to locate partner pantries near them.

Maryland Diaper Bank’s Contribution

The Maryland Diaper Bank, founded in 2018, works to close the gap for families who cannot afford an adequate supply of diapers — a need not covered by federal assistance programs such as SNAP or WIC. The organization partners with community organizations across Calvert, Charles, St. Mary’s and Prince George’s counties to distribute diapers, wipes and other diapering essentials on a monthly and emergency basis. Those interested in supporting the Maryland Diaper Bank can donate funds or new, unused diapers or find a drop-off location near them.

CareFirst Community Health Plan’s Involvement

CareFirst Community Health Plan Maryland, a Medicaid managed care organization serving more than 15,000 healthcare providers statewide, is providing SNAP and medical benefits assistance at Saturday’s event to help connect residents with coverage and community health resources. Rather than accepting public donations, CareFirst directs its community investment through outreach programs and partnerships aimed at closing gaps in healthcare access. Residents with questions about Medicaid enrollment or CareFirst CHPMD benefits can call member services at 410-779-9369 or visit carefirst.com/medicaid.
