The Charles County Commissioners and the Charles County Department of Public Facilities’ Environmental Resources Division have announced that free mulch is currently unavailable to the public due to a shortage.ย ย
The Department will have free, โgarden-readyโ mulch available to the public beginning on Saturday, May 15, on a first come, first served basis.ย
The free mulch that is distributed by the County is part of Charles County’s Christmas tree and yard waste recycling programs. Yard waste collected curbside, or dropped-off at one of three recycling centersโBreeze Farm, Pisgah, and the landfillโis combined with Christmas trees from citizens to create the mulch at the County’s processing facility at the Charles County Sanitary Landfill in Waldorf.ย ย ย
Loading of mulch takes place at the landfill site only between the hours of 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.ย Residents must bring pitchforks and load mulch themselves at the Pisgah and Breeze Farm recycling centers.ย
