free clothing, shoes and accessories to anyone who needs them no questions asked

MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — A community clothing ministry that began in a local home and now serves thousands will host a major free distribution event next month at Living Word Community Church.

The Giving Closet, a ministry of To Be Known Ministries, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon on March 7 at the Living Word Community Church, 39371 Harpers Corner Road, offering free clothing, shoes and accessories to anyone who needs them, no questions asked.

Organizers say The Giving Closet began in September 2023 in a private dining room and has grown with the help of volunteers and donations. To Be Known Ministries officially took over the outreach in December 2025, expanding its reach in Southern Maryland.

“The ministry reaches thousands, creating a welcoming space that blesses neighbors and shows God’s love in action,” according to the organization’s website.

The event is open to all residents of the region, and those interested in updates can text “TGC” to 240-466-9990 for notices about pop-ups and distribution dates.

To Be Known Ministries describes itself as a community outreach organization that fosters connections and support through faith-based service.
