LEONARDTOWN, Md.ย – The St. Mary’s County Fair may have been canceled due to COVID concerns, but you can still enjoy the taste of your favorite fair foods this weekend at the St. Mary’s County Fair Food Festival. We’ve got everything you need to know about the strict rules and the tasty menu.
The event is scheduled for this weekend,ย September 25-27 at the fairgrounds in Leonardtown.ย
The fair’s board of directors announced the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 fair at the end of June. “After months of monitoring the COVID requirements for physical distancing, the limitations on the number of people in a social gathering, and most importantly, the significant risks to the safety and health of our community, we determined it would be best to cancel this year’s County Fair.”
The directors said it was not an easy choice. “The decision was very difficult to make. This year would have marked our 74th annual Fair and we, along with many other volunteer organizations and individuals take great pleasure and pride in providing this event for our community.”
Many residents were pretty upset about the decision and the people behind the fair said they understood and were in search of a way to help make it up to residents. “Listen, we understand if some of you are needing to process your feelings over the Fair because we are, too. We are still mourning the Fair, but so proud of how our community has shown its care for one another.”
Socially Distanced Treats
On September 11, they announced the food festival with a playful rhyme:
More deets on the eats:
There won’t be any seats,
You gotta move your feets,
Stay masked and distanced with the greets,
our SMC Fair Food can’t be beat!
“We know yโall wanted the whole fair, but the reasons previously given for cancellation remain valid.”
