On any given sunny Sunday afternoon, Lancaster Park is invaded by dogs and their owners.ย At the back of the park, there is a โ€œdoggyโ€ off leash exercise area, enclosed by a 6 foot chain link fence for the animalโ€™s safety. The canines are anxious to get there and get off that leash so they can run and play with their doggy friends, and make new friends.

ย
The Dog Park area is divided into two sections; one for small dogs and one for large dogs, but most Sundayโ€™s find all the dogs on the large dog side, no matter what size.
ย
Apparently, size does not matter at the doggy park. Every kind of dog from small and speedy Jack Russell Terriers up to large lumbering Great Danes, and every size in-between, dogs run and play only stopping at the watering area for a drink then back to the fun.
ย
Most owners stand talking and marveling at how well their dogs get along after the first greeting sniffs are done. Occasionally, owners would have to sidestep as a group of dogs come careening toward them, but at the last second as the dayโ€™s leader of the pack veers away with all the other playful canines in hot pursuit.
ย
Lancaster Park on Willows Road in Lexington Park is open from sunrise to sunset daily unless there is inclement weather.ย Check the County website for details; www.co.saint-marys.md.us.ย Of course good behavior for dogs and owners is always necessary.
