LUSBY, Md. — A Port Republic man is facing trespassing, drug possession and resisting arrest charges after deputies were called to a Giant Food store in Lusby the night before Thanksgiving, according to charging documents.

On Nov. 26, 2025, at about 8:34 p.m., Deputy First Class R. McCourt of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Giant at 11740 Rousby Hall Road for a reported suspended employee refusing to leave, the documents state. A store manager told the deputy he wanted the employee barred from the property during a suspension.

The employee, identified as Dylan Michael Barbieri, 23, of Port Republic, allegedly advanced toward the manager, refused repeated orders to leave and walked farther into the store after being told he could be taken to jail if he did not comply, McCourt wrote.

When the deputy moved to arrest him, Barbieri allegedly pulled his arms away and continued to resist while being handcuffed and searched. During the encounter, a baggie of blue pills fell to the floor; McCourt wrote that an online pill identifier indicated they appeared to be Percocet, a Schedule II controlled substance. The pills were later submitted to the Maryland State Police lab for testing.

Barbieri was taken to the Calvert County Detention Center. He is charged with trespass on private property, possession of a controlled dangerous substance not cannabis and resisting or interfering with arrest, all misdemeanors.

Barbieri was released on his own recognizance Nov. 27, and a trial is scheduled for Jan. 26, 2026, in Calvert District Court.
