Patuxent Habitat for Humanity has announced the next recipient of the Gary Senese Memorial Veteran’s Repair Corps / Home Depot Grant. The work on the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Johnson will begin on Saturday, April 13.

James Johnson and his wife, Evelyn, have lived in their home for over 15 years. They currently reside in the Great Mills area. There are six people living in the house: Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, their daughter and her three children.

Mr. Johnson is an U.S. Army veteran and has a son currently serving in the Marine Corps. Mr. Johnson has a very limited fixed income. He receives dialysis three times a week and is unable to walk without assistance and/or the use of his mobility chair.

Patuxent Habitat for Humanity will do the following critical repair through The Home Depot Foundation Veterans Repair Corps grant: install a new roof with the gutters and downspouts, install a new water heater, repair drywall and other miscellaneous repairs in the home such as screen repair, re-venting the dryer vent and an exterior door repair. Additionally, they will be replacing his current handicap ramp with a new one as well as provide a safety platform for the rear entrance.

Mr. Johnson will be a recipient of a new handicap ramp made from volunteers on The Build on the Mall project, a nationwide Habitat for Humanity International week-long event held on the Washington D.C. Mall, June 1-7, 2013. Build on the Mall will host VISTA volunteers, Habitat for Humanity affiliate volunteers along with congressmen and women who will work alongside of the dedicated individuals who make the Habitat organization a worldwide success. Patuxent Habitat, with their volunteer base, will install the new ramp for the Johnsons after June 7th.
