LA PLATA, Md. – Emergency crews shut down Hawthorne Road near Ripley Road on Sunday afternoon, August 3, 2025, following a collision involving a motorcycle and a vehicle that sent two people to area hospitals.

The crash occurred shortly after 12:20 p.m., when a caller reported a motorcyclist lying in the roadway after being struck by a vehicle. First responders found the riderโ€”a man in his 30sโ€”face-down in the middle of the road, complaining of back pain and a possible broken wrist. He was stabilized at the scene and taken to UM Capital Region Medical Center with injuries described as serious but not life-threatening.

The driver of the vehicle, a woman in her 70s, was also evaluated and transported to UM Charles Regional Medical Center.

Hawthorne Road was closed in both directions for more than two hours as emergency personnel worked the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
