Instead of dodging traffic through downtown Prince Frederick as they did the previous years, the participantsย of the 2013 Run to End Hunger traversed The Calverton Schoolโ€™s cross country course. The Saturday, Oct. 19 run through a mostly wooded venue attracted over 70 entrants.

The 5 kilometer (K) event is sponsored by End Hunger in Calvert County. Race director Jacqueline Miller reminded the runners and walkers that $20 of their entry fees will help feed a family of four for a whole week.

Austin Dice, 21 of Chesapeake Beach, was first to cross the finish line. Diceโ€™s winning time was 18 minutes and 35 seconds. Finishing second was Shane Martz, 31, who logged a race time of 19 minutes and 36 seconds. Nathan Laborie, 33, finished third with a time of 20 minutes 49 seconds.

Laura Osborne was the top female finisher, completing the 5K in 24 minutes and 24 seconds. The second-place female was Tina Thompson, with a time of 24 minutes and 37 seconds. The third-place finisher among females was Debra Spatz, who completed the 5 kilometers in 25 minutes and 43 seconds.
