HUNTINGTOWN, Md. Huntingtown High School students got to participate in a powerful learning experience on April 7.

The Chesapeake Region Safety Council led a mock crash event, allowing students to watch a full accident scene staged so they could better understand what happens when you practice unsafe driving.

The mock crash event took the students through the entire experience, from the risky behavior to the crash, to police involvement and rescue teams coming to help the injured. The dedicated participants made sure students understood the real-life consequences – arrests, injuries, loss of property – as well as the emotional damage and trauma that you can inflict on others when you cause an accident.

“With prom, graduation, and summer approaching, this demonstration delivered an important message to students: impaired, distracted, fatigued, or reckless driving can have life-altering consequences, not just for drivers, but for families and the entire community,” The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) wrote in their Facebook post about the event.

“Together, we’re helping reinforce safe choices behind the wheel and building a safer community for everyone,” CCSO wrote in their post.
